Blogspot.com is ugly as shit.

It is. But you gotta love that Google wants to love your blogspot blog because Google owns blogspot. So if you’re going to use blog spot, this is how you make the butt-ass ugly CSS template look readable:

Just make sure you use that BRANDING SLOGAN on EVERY one of your blogs, gmail signature, website, and social media descriptions. Google passes on key word relevance through contextual proximity. If you don’t know what that means, ignore the last 23 words.

Just convince them to pay you and to send you free products. Tell them you will charge them for your “product testing and consulting.” Then, if they LIKE your review, they can pay an additional fee of $500 to have you post your review.

The following is an email to a client. Our client asked why we were building links to other websites that mention her including our own blog that features her website. Shouldn’t we ONLY link directly to her website?

Hello (Name Removed),

I totally understand your concern as we just recently started working together.

There are two issue at hand.

1. When we did a backlink test for s…ns. com we found a LARGE number of spam links.

4,780 to be exact.

You can check them yourself using backlinkwatch. com

Many of them are not only spam. Many of them are cloaked and malware sourced. I’ll do a video on this. Nobody understands this part.

2. EVEN IF these spam links did NOT create any penalties for your website, we use our blog as a “control sample test.”

What that means is that we do 300% MORE work than most people.

We promote your website.

We promote your blog post on our url.

We promote your Pinterest page.

THEN, we see what floats to the top first.

IF we do the SAME work to your website and to our blog post about you… AND to pinterest… then we can see which page Google prefers the most.

THEN… next step is to get your website as SIMILAR to the page that floated to the top. The more test pages, the faster one will float to the top.

IF… YOUR website DOES float to the top FIRST, then we wasted 2/3s of our energy.

So why would we risk wasting our own time? 

Simple… if we don’t have new and clean (meaning zero links) urls to start with, we have no idea how fast your site will rank in google.

Think of the other two urls we are simultaneously promoting as pace cars in the Indy 500. If you’ve never heard of that term, think of the other pages as 

1. a Metronome

2. Storm Drains that funnel everything back to you anyways.

We have to have a sample to compare against. Just blindly throwing links at any url, even a brand new url with NO spam links will put us in a situation where we just have to tell you, “well, keep paying us until you’re on page one of Google, and no, we have no idea when that will be.”

At least with two other urls we are promoting, we can say, “Well, “your pinterest page landed on Google page one after only creating 5 links. So your home page should only need a few more weeks…”

3. Link Pyramid Building

PS… the more websites and urls that link to your site, the better. AND each url needs to be sub-linked to as well… So that’s why we are also building links to the OTHER sites that talk about you… and NOT just your website.

Besides… your website already has 4,780 links… and that hasn’t gotten you to page one of Google.

Have you ever tried to get women to try your new skin care line? What about lipstick, mascara, hair extensions, mask, or any other nine dozen possible products women consume ritually?

You probably made your product line because it’s better than what women are buying now.

You probably made sure it was more organic, more rejuvenating, more eco-friendly, more pore friendly, and maybe ever more of a value than what women are buying now. You and I both know that your product is better than what’s costing women as much as their car payment every month. But when I comes to getting them to buy from your Magento eCommerce store or catalog or retail store, how well are you doing?

How’s that going for you?

If it’s a new product, even if you’re an established brand, it’s harder to get women to buy it than it is to remove mascara. If you’re an unknown brand– water-proof mascara.

Any idea why that is?

Selling fashion to women is much easier than it is to sell beauty products. The reason as to why that is is also the solution to how you can get women to abandon their trusted brand name products and buy yours– month over month over month.

“Trust.”

Women literally consume make-up like lipstick. They apply mascara millimeters away from their eyeballs. They live under foundation 10 hours a day. They have to trust you.

Many of you CEOs of women’s skin care products are men. You’ve got to understand that beauty products are intimate products to women. They have to trust you.

Here’s the catch 22. How to do get women to trust your products if they’ve never tried them?

There’s two ways.

1. Start with Peripheral Products

From a product centric strategy, you could simply start with a product that’s non invasive and start building trust of the years like… actually, I asked my wife to name a type of beauty product that she’d try without knowing the brand if she was in a pinch. She said, “마음놓고 쓸 수 있는건 없지.“

Roughly translated, that means, “there’s not anything like that.”

Since that didn’t work out so well, let’s go to the main strategy:

2. Inherit Trust

Skin care company CEO’s come to me almost on a daily basis saying, “If only I could get a positive review from Oprah.”

Oprah earned her trust over decades. Getting her to give you her vote of confidence is inheriting her consumer’s trust. And you can replicate that exact same Orprah effect by working with beauty hair and skin care bloggers. They’ve been at it for years too. They’ve build equally devout and loyal fans. Sure they are not as prolific as Oprah. But that’s why I’m happy to introduce you to:

(Contact them. Hire them to test your product and do product consulting before asking them to blog about you. What they tell you about your product might even be more valuable to you than what they tell their trusting readers)

Alex of OldSchoolAlex.com and I talked about making his work more more visible. He is an artisan of gorgeous tooled leather harley seat covers.

Sure, there’s a lot of noise and clutter on the web. As well as Google pushes cream up to the top, rarely does the move innovative and creatively brilliant work make it into daylight. It’s always some corporation’s website that’s already got a huge following. And it’s that following that buzzes in Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

So the rich get richer.

That brings us to the Million Dollar Question. How do you market a small business against the tide of huge corporate budgets with solidified fan bases?

It’s actually simpler than you think if you know the anatomy of the web. There are pressure points and hinge joints just waiting to tip to the other side. It’s just like Aikido. A tiny high school girl can, using just the right angle, tension, torsion, and leverage, break a big burley Harley Davidson dude’s wrist.

On the web, there are two types of consumers no matter what your market.

There are influencers and there are followers. 

This is saying the same thing as “there are early adopters and there are stragglers.”

It’s those early adopters who will swing from Apple iPhone 5 to Samsung Galaxy 4 without ever looking back in the blink of an eye. There’s no loyalty. In doing so, they blog, they Tweet, they Facebook, They Pin and RePin. It’s this group that also pulls the purse strings of the stragglers. Win them over and you just plain win.

Now comes the Kata, Poom Sae, the Drill. 

How do you tear these guys out of the huge corporate claws that have them now? You don’t have to. You don’t have to compete against corporate marketing budgets. You’d lose anyway.

You see, I lied. There IS loyalty. These early adopters ARE loyal. But not in the way you think. They are NOT loyal to a brand. And when you win them over, you’ve got to remember that. They won’t be loyal to your brand either. What they ARE loyal to is “amazement.”

If you’ve got something amazing, they’ve been waiting for the next amazing thing. They are not caught in the claws of your corporate competitor. They are just hanging out until they find the next amazing thing.

So if you’re competing against huge corporations, you’ve got the wrong target in your sights. You’re fighting a phantom. Your real competition is your target market’s expectations. Beat their expectations to a bloody, sinewy, gnarly pulp and you’ve got the head of the dragon feeding out of your palm.

AMAZE.

Now that you know WHAT to do, HOW do you do it?

Simple. One human being at a time. 

These early adopters are online using public social media profiles saying things like,

“just bought a new Harley.”

“my Harley broke down.”

“I want a new Harley.”

1. Find them. Create search filters in Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and even for blogs. 

2. Engage them. Talk to them. Be a good neighbor. 

One way is to just repin and retweet and reshare everybody who you’re trying to befriend: see leather harley seat in Pinterest

3. Don’t sell. When’s the last time you WANTED to buy from a salesman.

4. Be supportive and valuable. Answer their questions. Help in every way you can.

5. Make sure you clearly state what you do and sell. Be super clear in your social media profile name. In Alex’s case, i’d go with something like @harleyleather for Twitter.

6. If you make your products overt in your profiles but never sell, you’ll win the respect of target market. Yes, there is a personal vetting process.

How many times do you have to see that slick, good looking rich guy strike out with the prettiest girl in school? How many times do you have to see the prettiest girl in school fall in love with the normal guy who was just there for her and again.

7. Remember, trying to get someone to do something makes them defensive.

Overcoming the Stats Leveraging Miracle Power

Yes, you’ve got to talk to thousands of people. In reality, statistically, you’re going to have talk to 1,500 before any one of them buys from you. By the time you talk to about 9,000 people, you’ll have about 4 sales. It’s linear up to this point. Knowing this, most people especially if you have rent to pay and tv shows to watch, give up. But at 10,000 people, something quantum happens. They start taking your place.

At about 10,000 people, you’ve created a self sustaining current. You’ve become that drop of water that broke a hole through a boulder. Miracles happen. Miracles happen predictably, constantly, and dependably. 

A trained woman’s voice will break a wine glass every time. An icicle focuses sunrise sunlight and sparks a winter forest fire every time. 

If a chubby Korean man can make the world dance funny, you can get other people to rave about your products.

Congratulations to Tim Ghormley and the Stanford Taekwondo team for winning the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championship this past weekend at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. 

Stats:  

Won Coach of the Year (3rd year in a row)—Congrats to Coach Huy Nguyen 

Won Freshman of the Year (2nd year in a row)—Congrats to Adrienne Ivey, who also won gold, and a spot on the US National Team

Broke Cal’s streak of 23 years of undefeated championships!

You know how hard it is to get one person to click on your links. You know how much it costs too. If you use Adwords, it’s going to be about $1.50 per click. If you use Facebook, it’ll be less but after getting all those people to click over from Facebook, you won’t be able to get them to buy anything.

In either case, you’re bleeding buyers to that enemy called “bounce.”

One bounce and you’ve wasted your buck fifty.

So how do you get people who see your Ad, Tweet, Facebook Status Update, Google+ post, etc to click through?

Once they do, how do you get them to dig deeper instead of bouncing back to where they were?

Remember, Bounce Doesn’t Just Happen At Your Website. Bounce Happens In Facebook, Twitter, Google+ Etc When They See Your Post But Click One Somebody Else’s Link.

You’re going to have to do what editorial editors have been screaming about for millenia. You’re going to have to change your headline writing style. But don’t worry, it’s really simple. You only need to delete one word from your headlines. Here’s that word and why: How to Decrease Bounce Rate to eCommerce Stores and Blogs.

The secret is in being pragmatic so your reader feels like you’re letting them be the judge. Nobody likes being preached to.

Ever notice how similar all the beauty magazine headlines are?

“The 5 Shocking Ways to Please Your Man,”

“How to Do a French Braid With Doughnut Grease On Your Fingers,”

“9 Reasons Why Your Neighbor Keeps Trying to Lick Your Finger…”

Etc?

It’s because these are the most compelling and action driving headlines on earth. There are a total of five of them. But beware, if you use them incorrectly, you won’t get any results. You won’t get a single click in any of the social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or LinkedIn unless you truly understand the usages of each of these 5 highest ctr headlines.

I’ll give you a huge hint. One of the WORST CTR headlines has the words “check out my” in it.
