How to Handle Interruptions During a Meeting or Presentation

Not another interruption!

Not another interruption!

You know that kid in the 2nd grade who had his hand up for most of that year? He’s going to be in your next meeting. And he’s got even more to say 30 years later.

Everything you say seems to spark an irrepressible mission critical core strategic paradigm that must come out of the box. You could continue to ignore him but that’s like continuing to present your case with a noticeable dangling thingy in your left nostril.

If you try to silence him, you could come across the bad guy. So what to do? Get everyone ELSE in the room to silence him. How do you do that?

Every time he comes up with detracting thought, pay him undue respect. Precisely write down his points on the white board and cite his name. Pretty soon everyone will see his name is the only name on the white board. Their glares should be enough to silence the heckler and net you the respect you just earned.
